About the Book:
Our Little Town is the story of one family in a small coastal village across the generations. Elsie (Allen) Johnstone belongs to this unwieldy clan and, in telling the story of her family, presents a history of Lakes Entrance in a unique way. The stories are told in the first person and are as varied and as colourful as the characters that tell them and, by their very nature, are subjective. Incidents, events and moments in history are all viewed from vastly different perspectives. Altogether, there are 28 storytellers, ranging in age from Jack Allen, in his 86th year, to Megan Allen, who was 14 at the time she wrote her story. The result is the inter-connected living memories of the descendants of Robert and Annie (Carstairs) Allen, stretching from early settlement to the present day. There is nothing flash, just every day people talking about every day things. But that, in its way, is what makes it so intriguing.
